Biography

David E. Johnson, Jr. is an award-winning singer, songwriter, actor and entrepreneur who was born and raised in Memphis, TN. As a child growing up in Memphis, David always had a knack for singing, acting and performing music. Because of this, David realized early on that he wanted to sing, act and perform—and that he wanted to do it for the Lord.

David made his broadcast debut as a featured performer on Bobby Jones Presents, which aired on the IMPACT Network. David also had the opportunity to open for gospel artist Canton Jones during Word Up! Bible Study’s Gospel Explosion event at Howard University. David performed his original song, Just Wanna Say Thank You. Additionally, David successfully competed at the Gospel Music Association’s (GMA) IMMERSE Conference vocal competition in Nashville, TN, where he advanced as a conference semi-finalist for the male vocalist category in 2018.

In 2019, David was introduced to the award-winning, celebrity singer/songwriter, Makeba Riddick- Woods (Rihanna; Beyoncé; Koryn Hawthorne). As a result of his introduction to Ms. Woods, David was afforded the life-changing opportunity to work with her one-on-one in the studio as a participant in her Young Dreamer’s Vocal Production Course offered through The Young Dreamer’s Consultancy Agency which she founded.

David officially entered the gospel music scene as a new artist on June 18, 2021, with the release of his single, Shake Em Off. David quickly followed up this release by filming the single’s official music video in the Nation’s Capital, Washington, D.C., during the summer of 2021. In October of 2021, David participated in the Pre-Dove Awards Showcase in Nashville, TN, launching his live professional performances within the Gospel/Christian music community, where he vocally ministered before an enthusiastic and participatory crowd.

The official release date for David’s follow up single, Shake Em Off (feat. 1K Phew) [Extended Version], was March 25, 2022, with a lyric video which followed on March 28, 2022. David was honored that REACH RECORD’s Christian hip-hop artist, 1K Phew, agreed to be a part of this single after first listen. 1K Phew’s 16- bar feature is a welcome addition to David's fun and energetic gogo gospel song, which resounds as a compelling anthem that encourages listeners to sing-along.

On July 8, 2022, David released the worship ballad, I Need Your Grace. This song starts off with the question, What if you woke up one morning and Grace wasn't there? That's a question that anyone who's ever done anything that they might want to take back has probably wondered. This song has a powerful chorus that reinforces the notion that as long as I have breath I will always praise [God] because God's Grace will never leave.

David has participated in artist showcases during Stellar Awards week 2022; Dove Awards Week 2022; and at the 2022 Avidity Awards. During the 2022 Avidity Awards, David was named a 2022 Indie Artist to Watch. Additionally, David was honored to be named the winner in the Outstanding Male Vocalist of Excellence category for the Rhema Awards.

David’s latest single, It’s Possible, has been what he has deemed as his most important song yet, and the song has almost been a decade in the making! In 2014, God spoke to David, saying that he had a testimony which had to be shared with the world. David’s testimony involves him practicing the ministry of celibacy--David believes that God has given him grace to wait until marriage. God confirmed to David that he could share this testimony with others through song after God spoke the simple words of, it’s possible, to him.
